We started our last day of mission work today by helping out at a carnival for kids at the local grocery store. We played games like ring toss, gave out prizes, and painted faces. Then we went to a nearby State Park where we swam, hiked and played frisbee in the afternoon before coming back to our host site for a great devotional about bringing our passion for service home with us.
Thank you all for your prayers and support, and please pray for traveling mercies tomorrow. See you all in church on Sunday when you can hear from our mission team in person!
[from our leader journal]:
"Mission Trips are, without exception, life changing experiences. But the trip to New Mexico has an element that adds a new dimension. The house we are working on is for a woman who currently has no water, no electricity, minimal heating, and few of the conveniences we have. But the setting here is of immeasurable beauty. As we paint, put up wall board, and dig holes to build steps for an entryway, we are treated to an amazing view of near desert mesas extending tens of miles. We are in an area of God's creation that treats us to amazing sun rises, sunsets, rainbows, and intense rain storms. All of this makes me stop to think if this is God's way of saying thanks to those who are living their faith by serving others. We learn how blessed we are with respect to material possessions in Garden City, but we are humbled by the magnificence of God's creation in New Mexico."
