143 Hear my prayer, O Lord,
Give ear to my supplications!
Answer me in Your faithfulness, in Your righteousness!
2 And do not enter into judgment with Your servant,
For in Your sight no man living is righteous.
3 For the enemy has persecuted my soul;
He has crushed my life to the ground;
He has made me dwell in dark places, like those who have long been dead.
4 Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me;
My heart is appalled within me.
God we struggle with the pain and grief that too often surround us. On Wednesday, we were reminded again of the darkness in our world. We pray for the families of those lost at Emmanuel Church in Charleston. Bring them whatever comfort they may be able to experience. Grant them healing as we hold their community up in prayer
And as we long for a day free of hatred and violence, work through each one of us to be forces of light against the darkness. Strengthen our gifts for compassion and forgiveness in the face of terror. May your light shine through each of us that we might struggle through peace and love and hope against the forces which would tear us apart. Amen.
