You in Me, and I in You

John 14:18-31

18 “I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. 19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.

Few feelings are scarier or more painful than loneliness and abandonment. It's exactly the experience that Jesus offers his followers freedom from in this beautiful passage.

Jesus speaks of a day when the pain of being alone will be no more. Not only is that a comfort on the days that we feel on our own and apart from others, but it's also a comfort that God has a plan even beyond the years we live in this world.

God wants us not to feel alone. God wants us not to be afraid. The darkness of the unknown and the unaccompanied is turned to the warm welcome of a friend by the love of a God who will never leave his children orphaned. Let us embrace the caring company of our loving God.
