Abide in You

1 John 2 18-25

The language used in the early church was to distinguish who were believers and who were not.  If you were not a follower of Christ, therefore, you were the antichrist.  Antichrists were labeled further as the enemy of God and false teachers.  John was not alone in his thinking that Jesus would return, so there was a sense of urgency to follow Christ, and receive eternal life.

“Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you…and this is what he has promised us, eternal life.”

John wants us to know our beliefs matter, actions count and deeds are imperative.  He wants us to live the life worthy of being a follower of Christ and to be aware of people who choose otherwise.

Holy God, keep our eyes, ears and heart focused on your Son, Jesus Christ.  Let us hear him, see him and love him for the truth he is able to reveal.  As we celebrate the Easter season,  allow us to see you in your beloved Son when he walks among us.  Amen
