"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."
This passage from Psalm 118 is one of most common greetings that begin church worship services. It's a wonderful reminder of many valuable ideas. It reminds us that every day is special. It acknowledges that God is in control and oversees our days, our nights, and our whole lives. It reminds us that God the creator remains involved in the world, not just creating and then moving on, but actively engaging with us each and every day.
And this passage reminds us that our response to God's goodness is equally important. It reminds us that the proper response to God's creation is joy and gladness. It reminds us that no matter what the day has brought, or might continue to bring, there is reason for joy. Each day is a gift from God.
How is our weekend going? Have we remembered that our weekend is a gift from God? Have we rejoiced? Are we glad? This is a day from God and the life we have in it is a reason for joy. Let us be glad.
