Called

Hebrews 4: 14-5:4

The priesthood was a sacred profession in the Hebrew texts.  The title was passed on through family lineage. The role of a Priest was honorable and righteous. After all, they were responsible for things pertaining to God.

“And one does not presume to take this honor, but takes it only when called by God, just as Aaron was.”

The notion that just by family name gave you the honor of the priesthood seemed to be questioned.  God must call Priests.  To be called into the priesthood carries the yoke of being a servant.

Prayer:  Holy God, when you call us into your priesthood of believers, let us be ready to respond to that call, “Here I am , Lord, use me.”  Let us accept that title knowing you are our Lord.  Amen
