1 Corinthians 9: 1-16
Paul is writing to the church he helped establish, and is bringing up the rights of an apostle. As a tentmaker, Paul lets it be known he is not being paid, although he makes a case for others who have devoted their lives to preach the gospel. Paul is the ultimate volunteer and clergy advocate.
“Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard without eating any of its fruit? Who tends a flock without getting some of the milk?...In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.”
We are about to “call” Ian Rottenberg into the profession of an Ordained Minister. That means we are making a covenant with him to have him serve as one of the ministers of our church. In the same way, Ian is making a covenant with us to serve by the grace God has given him.
Let us pray
Holy God, as we prepare to ordain Ian Rottenberg into your ministry, let this church understand his rights as a man of God, clergy to the church and husband to Jen. Grant Ian the wisdom and grace to balance his life while serving you to the fullest. Amen
Please be present Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 4:00 pm to welcome Ian into the Ministry of God.
