February 6: Hebrews 13:1-8
"Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, 'I will never leave you or forsake you. So we can say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?'"
This weekend many of the youth in our church are participating in a 30 hour fast to raise awareness about and money for those who go without food each day. When we think about the level of poverty of those who literally have no food, for days on end, we realize the abundance that we have.
Being content with what we have is difficult. It seems that we are almost programmed to want more. But let's focus on what we really need: food, water, shelter, and the love of those in our families and our community. As we think about those who are hungry, and as we donate our time and our money, let's also remember what is most important in our own lives, and thank God for continually providing it.
