In the middle of Jesus’ teachings, Jesus weeps over Jerusalem.
“Would that even today you knew the things that make for peace! But now they are hid from your eyes.”
The Mount of Olives is set on a hill overlooking Jerusalem. This was a peaceful place and one that Jesus went to often to pray. Knowing his days were numbered, Jesus most likely gazed at the city of Jerusalem and wept for their ignorance. They had no idea that Jesus was the Son of God. They had no idea the consequences to their actions. Jesus did.
Have we ever done something that later we regretted? If we were able to see the consequences, perhaps we would have altered our actions, held our tongue, or stayed at home. We don’t get that privilege. We do, however get the opportunity to know that God is watching our actions all the time.
God, we pray that as you look down on us, you are pleased with what you see. We try to follow you and wear the bracelet WWJD as a reminder to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with you. Help us do more, and seek your guidance daily. Amen
