Psalm 50: 1-6
By Rev. Lynn Sullivan
“Our God is coming , but not in silence…God calls heaven and earth as witnesses…God says, ‘gather my faithful people to me…the heavens proclaim that God is righteous and is the judge.” Vs 3-6 New English Version
The chapters surrounding Psalm 50 are reminders that we are visitors (guests) on the earth; that the earth belongs to God. What we have is credited to God. God expects us to give God thanks and praise and act accordingly.
This is a difficult passage for us when we want to give ourselves credit for our successes. After all, we are the ones who sacrificed, studied, worked hard and made difficult choices. Right? Right? Wrong!
Holy God, thank you for reminding us that we are not in control of our lives, and that we must trust in you. Be patient with us as we redirect our thinking and turn our lives over to you, giving you all the praise and glory. Amen
