Fellowship at the Garden City Community Church
At Garden City Community Church we seek to become a "community," an extended family where everyone is cared for and treated with respect, kindness, patience,
forgiveness and love. By sharing our food, our talents, our knowledge and ourselves we hope to have FUN while strengthening our bond as a Christian congregation. In this spirit, we offer a wide variety of fellowship opportunities. Please feel free to join us or contact us for more information on any of the activities listed below. Check our calendar for the latest dates and times.
The Board of Membership Life & Development plans many varied events through out the year to encourage all ages to join together in FUN! Events include the Progressive Dinner, Advent and Lenten Breakfasts, trips to see the Mets, Yankees & LI Ducks & Summer fun events.
Fellowship Hour
Each Sunday, after church, everyone is invited to the parlor for the Fellowship Hour – a nice time to catch up with old friends, meet new friends and enjoy delectable goodies.
Fellowship Hours are sponsored by church members to honor a special person or event, celebrate a birthday, anniversary, graduation or special day or just to share their hospitality.
Church Boards and organizations also sponsor Fellowship hours to celebrate special events in our church life, i.e. Confirmation, Thank you to volunteers, and Fall Apple Fest.
The Fellowship Hour is overseen by the Board of Membership Life & Development. There are Sign-Up Sheets posted at the Whitehall Desk to reserve your Sunday.
The Thursday Luncheon Group
One of our most treasured outreaches is the Thursday Luncheon for our community Senior Citizens. Meeting most second and fourth Thursdays at noon in the Parlor, our Senior Citizens (church members and community residents) enjoy the opportunity to get out and fellowship with others.
We gather together in the parlor to share lunch, each person brings their own sandwich and the church provides coffee and dessert. A program of interest is presented at each meeting.
If you are looking for an opportunity to serve with minimal commitment, this is a wonderful way to give to the people we love and revere.
Opportunities include:
Drivers (pick up the homebound people)
Hostess and Greeter (set the tables, bring a dessert and serve with coffee and tea)
Program (provide about half an hour talk on the topic of your choice. Past programs have been about trips, hobbies, musical selections and informative topics such as health and safety, finances and taxes, to name a few)
If you are interested in attending or volunteering please call the church office for more information 746-1700.
Garden City Community Theatre
The Garden City Community Theatre, founded in 1996, seeks to provide a fellowship activity for church members and their families. In addition, it reaches out to the local community extending the goodwill and warm spirit of Christian fellowship in a safe and wholesome environment.
A musical comedy production is presented each spring. Rehearsals and performances are in Gardner Hall at the Garden City Community Church.
The theater group seeks to provide an opportunity for parents and their children to do something together that is fun and productive. The laughter and applause provide memories to share for a lifetime.
For more information about auditions, volunteers and how to get involved call the church office – 746-1700.
Men’s Retreat
All men of the church are invited to attend the annual Men’s Retreat.
The retreat is held at an off-site location. Past retreats have been held at the Little Portion Friary and at the St. Ignatius Retreat house.
A topic of interest is chosen for each retreat and a program is planned to allow for inquiry, discussion and introspection.
