Music Ministry

The Music Ministry of the Garden City Community Church maintains a long tradition of the creation of beautiful music offered to the glory of God. There are various choirs that offer fun, fellowship and an inspirational way of expressing thanks and praise to God: Adult Choir, Cantamus Choir, Carol Choir, Alleluia Choir, Bell Choir, & Special Music Events. Everyone is invited and encouraged to explore their faith through music. Please contact the Church office for information on participating in any of our Music programs.

Alleluia Choir

Open to children aged 4 through Grade 1. The Alleluia Choir is focused on giving these youngest singers an enjoyable Christian music experience, and will not involve as much singing in Sunday services as is the case with the older choirs. The Choir meets after Church on Sundays 11:45-12:00.

Carol Choir

The Carol Choir is open to Boys and Girls in grades two through five. The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings from 12:00-12:25 and sings approximately once a month at the 10:30 service. There is also be an extra weekly rehearsal about once a month on Tuesday afternoon from 4:00-4:45.

Cantamus Choir

The Cantamus Choir (Medieval Latin for "Let Us Sing") is open to Girls and Boys in grades six through twelve with unchanged voices. The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings from 12:15-1:00 and will sing many Sundays at the 10:30 service. There is also be an extra weekly rehearsal about once a month on Tuesday evening from 7:00-8:00.

Confirmation & Senior High Special Service Choir

Open to anyone who loves to sing and make music. Comprised of singers, soloists and rhythm section instrumentalists, this group offers Contemporary Christian Music for special worship services - Thanksgiving Eve, Confirmation Sunday & Stewardship Sunday. Music is selected according to interest of the group. Rehearsals are scheduled a few weeks before each event. Does not require an ongoing commitment.

RLudwigRobert Ludwig has served as Minister of Music at Garden City Community Church since 2000. He was a full-time Organist/Choirmaster for twenty-three years at Lexington’s (KY) Christ Church Cathedral and Garden City’s (NY) Cathedral of the Incarnation before becoming a full-time public school music teacher in 2000. He holds degrees in music from Davidson College and Yale University and served on the Fulbright Screening Committee for Organ and Harpsichord. He has served as Professor of Church Music at Mercer School of Theology and was NY American Choral Director’s Association Chair for Boys’ Choirs. He is currently head of vocal music and music theory programs at Garden City High School (recognized as a Grammy Signature School Finalist and one of the 100 finest school districts for music education in the U.S.), conducting a total of eight choirs at the church and the school. As a teacher, Mr. Ludwig has repeatedly been listed in “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.” Mr. Ludwig has conducted choirs in notable liturgical venues including Washington National Cathedral, Cathedral of St. John the Divine, St. Thomas Church (NYC), Christ Church Cathedral (Montreal), Wells Cathedral, Coventry Cathedral and St. Paul's Cathedral (London). He has collaborated with world-renowned classical singers and instrumentalists such as soprano Phyllis Curtin and trumpeter Guy Touvron, and has frequently performed on both organ and piano as an accompanist for singers and instrumentalists on repertoire ranging from baroque classics to the songs of Kern and Gershwin.
