Passing it on: Exploring the Past to Live our Future
Ever get to a holiday dinner when Aunt Mary retells an old family legend for the umpteenth time…. half the room rolls their eyes because they have either heard the story before… the other half is secretly excited to hear it? Our Christian faith is all about traditions… memories of customs, stories and values passed down from one generation to the next. Join us for a weekend of fun activities and sharing about what makes our families special.
Our theme for 2019 will be “Passing it on: Exploring the Past to Live our Future.” We will first explore the theme of “traditions” in our cultures, families, and church looking at the people, values, places and struggles that have shaped who we are in the past. This will include making a family tree, and sharing photos or videos from special family traditions.
After looking backwards, we will turn our attention forward, identifying who we want to become in the new fall season, as people of faith always evolving and growing in God’s love. This will involve making “vision boards,” which are collages to create a picture of who calls us to be in God’s kingdom.
Recreational activities will also include hiking, swimming, basketball, beach explorations, a scavenger hunt, a night-time variety show, campfire, community meals, and wonderful conversations on the Adirondack chairs overlooking the bluff with friends! We will end our time with worship on Sunday morning!
Retreat facilitated by Paula Tusiani-Eng, LMSW, M.Div., and along with other church members and staff. If you would like to volunteer to help with our summer retreat by providing snacks, purchasing supplies, helping with games, or other behind the scenes planning, email Paula at firstname.lastname@example.org.
No matter where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome to connect with us and our faith community. Our family retreat is not just for families with young children, it is for believers of any age who wish to connect with others in our faith community.
